Mariano Buccino, bass
The bass Mariano Buccino was born in 1987 in Naples. Since he was a child, he has been singing in a children’s choir. At the same time, he has been studying piano and later singing and composition. He graduated in lyrical singing (Summa cum laude) at the San Pietro a Majella’s Conservatory in Naples. Successively, he was accepted as part of the “Opera Studio” of the Santa Cecilia’s Academy in Rome and studied under the guidance of Renata Scotto. Contemporaneously, he took part in different masterclasses with Mietta Sighele, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Alfonso Antoniozzi e Stefano Giannini. Since 2013, he has been studying singing under the guidance of Michela Sburlati.
He was a finalist of the 53rd Voci Verdiane International Singing Competition in Busseto. He won the 7th International Singing Competition of the Città di Ravello and the 65th “AsLiCo” International Singing Competition for the role of Commendatore in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. This competition led him to make his debut in the above mentioned role for Opera Lombardia staged by Graham Vick.
He sang in the Rossini’s PETITE MESSE SOLENNELLE in cooperation with the “Accademia dei Musicisti” of Fabriano at the International Festival of Sacred Music of St. Julia in Livorno and in Verdi’s MESSA DA REQUIEM in Rome Basilica Papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura conducted by Tomomi Nishimoto in a concert for remembering the victims of Hiroshima with the presence of the Pope.
For the Theatre of Piacenza, he took part in a production of Macbeth singing alongside the baritone Leo Nucci. Then he was Samuel in Un Ballo in Maschera staged by Leo Nucci and conducted by Donato Renzetti.
At the Theatre of Cagliari, he debuted Colline in LA BOHÈME conducted by Michelangelo Mazza and staged by Ugo Tessitore and Timur in TURANDOT conducted by Alpesh Chauhan and staged by Pierfrancesco Maestrini.
For the Musikfest in Bremen, he debuted Orbazzano in TANCREDI with the Byzantine Academy under the guidance of Ottavio Dantone.
At the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari, he was Ramfis in AIDA conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti and staged by Joseph Franconi Lee. Then, he debuted the role of Raimondo in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR conducted by Antonio Pirolli and staged by Gilbert Deflo. Subsequently, he debuted Sparafucile in RIGOLETTO under the guidance of Giampaolo Bisanti and the direction of Arnaud Bernard. Therafter, he debuted Don Basilio in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA conducted by Renato Palumbo and the direction of Pier Luigi Pizzi.
He was a very appreciated Commendatore in DON GIOVANNI at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona conducted by Josep Pons and staged by Kasper Holten. This production was resumed at the New Israeli Opera of Tel Aviv under the guidance of Daniel Oren.
At the Carlo Felice Theatre of Genova, he was Raimondo in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR conducted by Andriy Yurkevych and staged by Lorenzo Mariani, where he got a real triumph from the audiance and the critics. Subsequently, he debuted the role of Ferrando in IL TROVATORE under the guidance of Andrea Battistoni and the direction of Marina Bianchi.
